Getting Involved
By: Charles Bacon

Get involved in protecting the environment. Sanborn has always had many students interested in protecting the environmnet. Now it's time to get involved. The school has ongoing projects started, but the town of Kingston is also looking for your help. If you are involved in community service, it will give you a good chance to go to a good college. Helping the environment is a good thing in general, because you can help out conserving your town wetlands. Maybe you are looking for fun. Whatever your reason, just come on out and help the town.

To get more information come to the Town Hall on Tuesdays. The Planning Board meets three Tuesdays a month. There you can learn about permits and their review process. You can also offer to help on special projects.

There is a conservation meeting on the first Thursday of every month at the Town Hall. You can find out how to help the wetlands in the Kingston and Newton area. They need help mapping the wetlands. You could help monitor the lands that the Conservation Committee has purchased. You could get out into the wilds of Kingston if you volunteer with this group. You could go out and list all the bike trails or any other trails. You can watch Kingston's wetlands grow each year, or you any have to watch what the people in town do to harm them.

If you want to do something else to help, ask the Town Hall about the Park Conservation Project. The town of Kingston bought land off New Boston Road in 1990. They need more people to start the project because they haven't had the people power to start it yet. So go to the town hall to pitch in.

You might not even have to leave your backyard to protect your environment. Many of us just have to walk into our backyards to find places to observe.
