HOW IS HUNTING GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

By: Kelly R.

Hunting is beneficial to the environment in many different ways. To some people, hunting is cruel and unacceptable, and to others, it is an enjoyable pastime. Hunters will understand the points I will make, while others will totally disagree with me, but hopefully I can convince some people to see hunting my way.

Hunting helps to control the amount of deer that are wandering around the woods. This happens because deer mate whenever there is a doe in the area that is in heat. Deer, unlike people, eventually stray away from their families(when they are old enough) and may never see them again. This causes a lot of deer. Deer mate all of the time, no matter how many offspring they previously had. If it weren't for hunters, there would be too many deer to feed in the winter, which brings me to my next point.

With all of the snow on the ground burying the fallen leaves and the grass, the deer don't have enough to eat. The more deer in the area, the less food each deer can consume. Many deer die of starvation in the winter, leaving food for the foxes and other animals in the area. For every hunter, there is a maximum of two deer shot a season.

As you can see hunting is not as cruel as it seems. It provides people, other deer as well as other animals with food. Hunting doesn't hurt anyone (if a careful hunter) or anything in the environment. If you hunt you need to be careful at what it is that you are shooting at, and you must make sure that you have a clear shot so that you don't seriously injure a deer and have it bleed to death.
