10 WAYS YOU CAN HELP SAVE THE WORLD'S RAINFORESTS

1) "SUPPORT PRODUCTS THAT SUSTAIN THE RAINFORESTS"

There are actually companies that are going out of their way to develop products that out of their way to develop products that help support the rainforest.

2) "VISIT THE RAINFOREST"

If you visit a rainforest you can help make them an economic asset. "Rainforest national parks attract foreign tourists provide income for cities and towns throughout the income for cities and towns throughout the region, and supply jobs for locals, who are trained as rangers, researchers, and guides". (91)

3) "INCREASE PAPER RECYCLING"

If you recycle certain forms of paper at home as well as at work, you will reduce the demand for tropical timber.

4) "BE MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT"

"Weatherizing your home using energy-efficient appliances and lighting will show the world that individual investments in energy efficiency can reduce the need to construct more dams and power plants for generating electricity". (92)

Building dams means cutting down more trees.

Also keep your car tuned up for better fuel efficiency.

Carpool or use public transportation whenever possible.

5) "BUILD A BACKYARD WILDLIFE REFUGE"

"Many of North America's most popular songbirds are actually migrants from the rainforests of Central and South America". (94) By putting up bird feeders and planting certain vegetation, you can furnish them with a nice place to stop and rest during their long journeys.

6) "SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE IMPORTANCE OF TROPICAL FORESTS WITH OTHERS"

Helping to increase awareness among others is an important thing you can do.

7) "ENLIST MEDIA SUPPORT"

"Write a letter expressing your opinion to the editor of your local newspaper". A letter will let other people know about the rainforest.

8) "VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME"

Every organization needs help and they will greatly appreciate any time you could give them.

9) "DONATE MONEY"

Even the smallest donation to a ecological program will be appreciated and most are tax deductible.

10) "WRITE YOU ELECTED OFFICIALS"

"Write to your elected officials." (97) "Tell them why you are concerned about rainforests destruction, and ask them what they are doing to help prevent it."
