Step Two: Editing the Pictures
Now comes
the harder part. The way I created my photomosaic makes it
possible to use
any small picture, anywhere you would like on the large picture.
But,
my way requires more editing of the pictures. First open up your
large
image and one smaller image that you want to use. It is
preferable, but not necessary, to choose an image of similar color
composition and similar shape as the spot where you will put it. (See Diagram)
Use the magnifying glass tool to set the small image so that it is big
enough to work with (or appears on the screen at about 1 -2 inches
wide).
Then set the large image to the same size-ratio (located at the title
bar
for the image). Now, if the small image has different colors or
sections of different light intensity, use the lasso tool to select a
part of the
small image that is different. Under the "Adjust" part of the
menu
bar, select "Variations." Play around with changing the shadows,
midtones,
and highlights of the picture to get it about where you think it should
be. If you make a mistake, just cancel, or if you hit OK and then
don't like it,
use "Edit," Undo. When you're done, go on to step three WITHOUT
saving, because you may want to use it again. And even when you
drag it to the large image, it will be on it's own "layer" so you can
still manipulate it independently of the large image. See a second diagram for this step.
